Old School Halloween...

This is how we did it back in the day. Plastic suit tied at the neck, sweaty little mask with nose holes you could barely breathe through. I remember these costumes being the sh*! Unless my Mom dressed me up as a Hobo{something we all were a time or two} I remember loving going shopping every year for my costume in a box!

Vintage Lemon Meringue Halloween Costume found in MagpieEthel's Etsy Shop.

1. Halloween 1973, 2. Trick or Treat, 1975, 3. Wee Creature from the Black Lagoon, 4. Rocket Man, 5. Flame retarded, 6. Cat & Clown

Hopefully dressing your child as a "Hobo" for Halloween isn't an option anymore...what were our parents thinking?? Yikes! Is that not the saddest costume :(

1. Funny Bunny and Happy Hobo

It's about that time to get out there and go costume shopping....happy hunting♥♥

Vintage Paper Shelf Edging

I think this is one of the greatest home decor inventions ever!!

1. Royaledge

1. China Cupboard, 2. Chicago Kitchenalia in cabinet

About 5 years ago I discovered Shelf Edging. I spent way too much time trying to win some on eBay. The problem was, there was a buyer that would bid on every single listing, seriously I would find one, go to check it out...and there she was~ already bidding on it. She won most auctions{her collection must be unbelievable}. So, after losing countless auctions to this other buyer....I became like a maniac bidding ridiculous amounts of $$ just to get a hold of one single measly package of shelf edging.
Eventually I did win one. I think the other buyer must have been in the bathroom, at the store or maybe even in the Hospital when that auction ended. I think I even high fived myself{and normally, I'm completely against high five-ing} I was SO excited!!

♥Cherry paper edging on a shelf in my Kitchen♥

A friend and I almost daily send each other links to listings on Etsy that we think the other will like. So, when she sent me this unbelievably cute Shelf Edging....I couldn't start clicking quick enough...click add to cart....click.....complete transaction.....click......confirm payment.....click click CLICK!!! Not only was it at an unbelievable price{I'm kind of feeling like I should have paid more} but not having to stress out about out-bidding another buyer for it~ SO much better than the eBay days :)

I added my new edging to a ledge in my Kitchen. It runs about 6 feet long{I couldn't take a wider shot because that would have meant I'd have to pick up some temporary clutter...no time for that now} it divides my kitchen & dining area/workspace. You know it's a good thing when your 12 year old tells you she loves it & that it's her favorite thing in the the whole house.

The Button Jack Pot!!

I guess a true Jack Pot would be more like a Truck Load of vintage buttons, but these sure felt like the best find I've come across lately.

The colors, designs & shapes...I'm in love with these sweet old buttons! They will eventually become magnets for my Inspiration Boards and Chalkboards.

I really have had the worst luck lately at finding vintage frames. But, along with the buttons and these two amazingly beautiful red velvet pillows, I found two frames.

The funny thing about the pillows is that I bought them knowing they would match nothing in my house. But, they were in such perfect condition(most likely from the 60's) I thought "Someone in Iowa or Wisconsin has been looking for these exact pillows and would love them", so they'll be going into my Vintage Shop.

A Vintage Home....

I love any opportunity to find Vintage goods for my Home. Whether I'm out hunting through Estate Sales, Flea Markets, Thrift Stores OR sitting at my computer looking through my favorite on-line Shops~ I love the search.
These on-line Shops filled with Vintage Goodness make it easy, and are always fun to browse through....
My Three current favorites are:
Decorative Country Living where you'll find a mix of antique, vintage and new items for your home and garden.

This next one, I'm not even sure how I stumbled onto it, but I'm glad I did.
It's called: Louise Loves where you'll find Vintage inspiration to make a house a home. You can also check out her Blog. She has some amazing textiles.

Lastly, Counting Your Blessings, where you'll find unique vintage goods. A few years ago I bought a darling patchwork quilt there. I've always found beautiful fabric, curtains and quilts on their site.

Each shop displays their sold items, giving you an idea of the types of items they carry(and also making you want to kick yourself for missing out on something great that's already sold). Checking back often is always a good idea, so you don't miss out on any newly listed items.

Happy little family

Do you remember these? I can remember spending hours playing with these tiny bendy rubber dolls. They all seem a bit mad or too serious, I'm not sure why they didn't make them look a little happier??

I also found these buttons this weekend, most of them came in this neat old Aspergum bottle~ I loved Aspergum! Do they still make it?? If not, they should :)

Pastel on the brain

I'm getting ready to re-paint my Bathroom. I've been trying to figure out what color combo I want to go with~ this Mosaic pretty much sums up the color and feel I'd love it to have.

1) 1950's Dish set, by: CometSalvage 2) Vintage slips, by: inwiththeold 3) The Swing Set, by: irenesuchocki 4) Child's Apron top, by: kinchi 5) Vintage Tablecloth, by: simplysuzula 6) Candy sprinkles necklace, by: deannaburasco 7) Cupcake bath bomb, by: fellingsmitten 8) Vintage fabric floral Wall Hangings, by: OliveSomeday 9) Dime store screwback earrings, by: eakerhouse 10) Masked face doll, by: shop66 11) stripe flower glass,by: vintagegoodies 12) Pink circus pillow,by: HollandFabricHouse 13) Foaming bath whip, by: doctorsweettooth

Is this beautiful or what?!! I'm not sure I'd ever want to leave the bathroom if mine looked like this.

1. our vintage seashore bath on a sunny day!

Wow! I'm loving everything about this bathroom~ especially the pink tub. But unfortunately I'm only painting my bathroom, not doing major re-construction.

1. Wallpapered bathroom via Living Etc

What a great idea, this would really be fun and easy to do. You could even rotate what you placed in the boxes.

1. Bathroom">Bathroom

The only thing left to do is come up with the time, $$ and energy to get it done. I'm really excited to get started after looking at these amazing inspirations.

♥Pictures & Frames♥

For as long as I've been Flea Marketing/Thrifting a couple of things I tend to collect are vintage pictures and frames. At first it was mainly floral prints, then cottages(or any old style home)landscapes and portraits. I can't tell you how many pictures/paintings I have of people I don't know. Even though I've run out of room on my walls~ old habits are hard to break.

I picked up these little vintage frames at my last flea market trip. I knew they would be even more amazing painted.

Since I've been under the weather and haven't been able to shake whatever it is that I have(going on almost three weeks now)my crafting/projects have been limited. I managed to complete these frames for my Shop.My mind wants to get up and go....but my body doesn't! Nothings worse than not feeling like yourself or having the energy to do the things you need to do. My dishes and laundry aren't going to do themselves~ my kids will use a ladle and a tea cup for their cereal rather than wash a spoon & bowl!!
Ugh...I'm hoping tomorrow is a better day :)

Yes!!!!

To answer my own question in my last post, I absolutely was too sick to be out flea marketing!! But so glad I did. First, this is what I had to leave when the only thing on my mind was crawling back into bed:

seemed a little unfair.

I quickly realized just how badly I was feeling when I parked my usual mile away(fighting for a parking space in the parking lot stresses me out, so I always park on the street). Under normal circumstances it's a great idea because I get some exercise & don't have drive in circles waiting for someone to leave~ not such a good idea when your sick. On my way back to the car I seriously contemplated laying down for a quick nap.
Today I went with the goal of finding a certain size & style frame(usually the kiss of death...because rarely do you find what you need when you need it). But today was my lucky day, not only did I find the exact frame but some other things I needed too. I might be sharing a few of them in my Vintage Home shop.

Now I'm off to Google walking pneumonia.

Flea Market find....

Sunday I went to a local flea market and found this Patchwork Quilt. Someone put some serious time into this, it's made up of 3" x 3" squares. I'm loving the variety of cute and interesting little pieces of fabric.

The reason I love collecting vintage is because it comes with a history, something that was already loved by someone else. Unfortunately I'll never know the history behind most of what I collect. Like the lady who made this quilt. What was her name? When was it made: early 1930's, 1940's or 1950's?? Did she make it as a gift or was she just one of those crafty ladies who could make a quilt like it was nothing. Was she married? Did she have children(and if she does, then why don't they have this quilt????). Maybe it's just me, but these are the things I wonder about!
My Dad always said I asked too many questions....wanted to know too many details. When he would be telling me a story at some point he'd say "I don't know what color socks the guy had on!" Well, I like to know as much information and details as possible :)
So, Thank You to whomever you are for my favorite new Quilt.
