Sunday I went to a local flea market and found this Patchwork Quilt. Someone put some serious time into this, it's made up of 3" x 3" squares. I'm loving the variety of cute and interesting little pieces of fabric.
The reason I love collecting vintage is because it comes with a history, something that was already loved by someone else. Unfortunately I'll never know the history behind most of what I collect. Like the lady who made this quilt. What was her name? When was it made: early 1930's, 1940's or 1950's?? Did she make it as a gift or was she just one of those crafty ladies who could make a quilt like it was nothing. Was she married? Did she have children(and if she does, then why don't they have this quilt????). Maybe it's just me, but these are the things I wonder about!
My Dad always said I asked too many questions....wanted to know too many details. When he would be telling me a story at some point he'd say "I don't know what color socks the guy had on!" Well, I like to know as much information and details as possible :)
So, Thank You to whomever you are for my favorite new Quilt.

Kristen this is the EXACT same reason why I am addicted to vintage things and have been since high school!!! I can't get enough of wondering who used it, how it was used, what their life was like, etc., etc., etc. My husband calls it "junk" which is why I have my own little space in our home where I display my vintage goodies...our rule is he can't touch or move anything there or else I will change the whole house to a shabby-vintage haven!!! ;-)
I'm glad I'm not alone :)
The most exciting things in life are in the details.....
Love your quilt.....

I'm with you sister! I am especially curious about family photos at estate sales. No living relatives wanted to save these memories and family history?
Your quilt is a true treasure and I think you could spin quite a story about the creator.
Happy New Year.
Your Pal,
Linda
